As women, our bodies go through plenty of changes throughout the month. For most women, this usually comes in the form of a monthly menstrual cycle. Throughout this cycle, an egg is produced by the ovaries and released through the fallopian tubes and into the uterus.
At this point, the egg will attempt to become fertilized by sperm that it may come in contact with. If the egg does not become fertilized, the woman’s monthly menstruation will begin. One factor that can make it easier for the sperm to reach the egg before it dies is whether or not the woman has healthy cervical mucus.
This is another item that changes throughout the month. Immediately following a woman’s period, this substance is virtually non-existent. As it grows closer to the time when the egg is released, cervical mucus will become thinner. This helps to protect sperm and make it easier for it to swim to the egg.
Some women are not able to produce healthy cervical mucus. However, there are some things that can be used to replace it. For example, there is a product called Pre-Seed that has been shown to act similarly to cervical mucus. Other lubricants, like KY jelly, have actually been shown to damage sperm and work against its ability to swim to the egg. Because of this, it is best to stick with a lubricant like Pre-Seed.
